When I biked home tonight, around 5pm, most of the cars were still parked illegally. Some (all?) did appear to have tickets...but the issue was not really resolved if the cars are still illegally parked.

Ian - we understand your frustration and appreciate your requests for service. This is an area where we conduct targeted enforcement, but it is a highly trafficked area that we aren't able to enforce 24/7. From an education and enforcement perspective, we have made it clear to officers that violations involving commercial vehicles (in particular) stopping in bike lanes, crosswalks and other locations that put bicyclists and pedestrians at risk will be addressed with citations under MGL ch. 89 s. 4D, a relatively new statute that prohibits parking or standing in marked bicycle lanes. We are hopeful that this will have a greater impact on changing behavior then a parking ticket.
