Description
UPS Truck parked, poorly, in a handicapped spot and completely obstructing the bike lane. I called CPD and was transferred "to a police officer" who transferred me back to the same dispatcher, who finally transferred me to a Lieutenant when I pointed out transferring me in circles is silly.
Is there a specific person in the Cambridge City Government who is working to address issues like this? If I tried to park like this in my own car it'd be ticketed and towed instantly, so why is it ok for a business to do this? Wouldn't it be better to just install some more loading zones on Hampshire St to meet this need?

One more picture, from about opposite 135 Hampshire St (one block closer towards Kendall Square), where this same UPS truck was completely double parked and blocking bikes & cars. Bonus, there was an Uber double parked across the street so no one could move!
After taking this picture is actually when I called CPD, then I walked my bike, while on the phone with CPD, one block away where the UPS Truck was parked in (sort of?) the handicapped spot.

I think CPD should use the pictures we take of these cars and trucks blocking the lanes and ticket/fine the offenders. It's against the law, we are sending in pictures w/ license plates - USE this information and enforce the law!

Thank you for reporting your concern to City of Cambridge via Commonwealth Connect.
Ian - that is disappointing that you were continuously transferred. The Units primarily responsible for roadway safety are the Traffic Unit within the Cambridge Police Department (617-349-4365) and the Traffic, Parking and Transportation Department (617-349-4700). We have a Business Liaison that works with the business community and have and will continue to share concerns such as these with them. UPS has previously been notified of resident concerns as it pertains to their parking.
Ms. Richards - the Cambridge Police does not mail citations based on photos submitted to the Department. It is due in part to a number of challenges. In order for the citation to be upheld if there were an appeal, we need to determine probable cause on the driver. The identification of a license plate and vehicle is a start, but a citation would be issued at the discretion of a responding officer if they were to observe and determine it to be appropriate to file a citation.
