Description
Please install additional no stopping anytime signs on Island Drive nearby Mecartney Rd. Since Starbucks opened, there have been cars parked along the starbucks side of Island Drive where there currently is ONLY ONE no stopping anytime sign attached to a light pole. Please make it obvious that cars shouldn't stop here by installing additional signs.

Thank you for reporting your concerns about street safety in Alameda. The Mecartney Road/Island Drive Improvement Project aims to improve safety at this busy Bay Farm intersection. The City is considering four options: a roundabout, reduced footprint all-way stop, “do nothing”, or traffic signal. Based on analysis of intersection and data on these configurations, the safest options are the roundabout and the reduced footprint all-way stop. Roundabouts reduce fatal and serious injury crashes by up to 90 percent when compared to conventional stop-controlled and signalized intersections.

Your report will help inform the City of Alameda’s work to achieve our Vision Zero goal of eliminating traffic fatalities and severe injuries. We will use street safety reports, including yours, in combination with crash data and equity indicators to prioritize and design street safety investments. This evaluation will generally happen on an annual basis, with some exceptions for clear and pressing trends. Issues that the City deems to be immediate safety concerns will be elevated for quick action.
